Traditional Shotokan Karate-Do Book Release


Don A. DeWitt, Cortland, Ohio, author of Traditional Shotokan Karate-Do: Brief History, Katas and Masters in Shotokan’s Development, announces the release of his first book.

This outstanding martial arts book is a must read for every one of all ages. The book focuses on educating the reader on the basic history and evolution of the martial arts; lists in chronological order the growth of Shotokan Karate; describes in detail all the Shotokan katas; and provides a complete Shotokan Lineage, identifying all the masters who deeply influenced this particular martial art. Lastly, DeWitt’s book gives the reader a description of the following: Shotokan Karate, the meaning and origin of the Shotokan Tiger symbol, what a Kata is, and defines the origin of the phrase “Shotokan Karate-Do.”

DeWitt holds the rank of 2nd degree Black Belt (Nidan) in Traditional Shotokan Karate-Do, and has also studied Chinese martial arts, for a total of nineteen years experience.


The author dedicated this book to his uncle Thomas Gontkovsky, a former Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps who served his country with honor during the Vietnam War (1967-1968).

Mr. DeWitt served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps (1984-1988), obtaining the rank of Corporal, while serving one year at Marine Barracks Ground Defense Force Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; served fourteen years in the fire/EMS service with the fire department, obtaining the rank of Lieutenant; and served eighteen years in law enforcement, ten of those years Full-time Deputy Sheriff with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department, before retiring.
